Artist's Description
In my struggle to find meaning out of the pain and heartbreak of divorce, I decided to paint this watercolor that represents the confusing mixture of feelings I was experiencing at the time. It depicts the many layers within the fabric of my heart that were being torn apart and ripped into irregular shaped pieces.
The dark shades represent my depression, and the unending feelings of hopelessness and abandonment that stretched out in lengthy plateaus. The layers of blue represent my feelings of isolation and rejection that I had towards myself. The layers of blue and red shades together depict the struggle I was having in allowing God to come into my desert places of deep brokenness.
The red represents Christ's blood and His love for me. This was painted more from my knowledge of the Scriptures, than from my life in the Spirit. Although He knew me, I didn't yet know Him. Although I loved Jesus Christ, I didn't yet KNOW Him personally.

I grew up in the United Kingdom, and immigrated to the USA when I was 19. After attending several different colleges over a number of years, I finally received my BA degree and began teaching children with special needs. However before I got my teaching degree I was a substitute teacher, and got hired to teach art classes in an elementary school in Southern California. The goal of this pilot program was to determine what kind of impact creative expression might have on the academic lives of elementary school students. For six months I taught children how to enhance their drawing and painting skills by providing a nurturing, fun, and supportive environment.
