Artist's Description
This oil painting is a sepia version of the original oil painting, "Reflections of the Past". The idea from which I painted this ocean scene was taken from a photograph I took while traveling the Pacific Coast Highway in California many years ago.
Although the scene is beautiful, the memories that follow it are not. They remind me of a time in my life when I was not listening to my heart. As a result I made unwise choices that resulted in painful memories...
So I chose to create another version of the original painting in soft sepia tones of an early morning sunrise. This ocean scene depicts that a new day and a new year has dawned for each one of us... This is the time in our lives where we can move forward with God into the new year, and make new memories that will reflect the joy of living daily in His presence.♥

About Hazel Holland
I grew up in the United Kingdom, and immigrated to the USA when I was 19. After attending several different colleges over a number of years, I finally received my BA degree and began teaching children with special needs. However before I got my teaching degree I was a substitute teacher, and got hired to teach art classes in an elementary school in Southern California. The goal of this pilot program was to determine what kind of impact creative expression might have on the academic lives of elementary school students. For six months I taught children how to enhance their drawing and painting skills by providing a nurturing, fun, and supportive environment. My goal was to empower these children through their creativity, and in turn...
