Intriguing work and interesting thoughts in the description ~ wisdom calls when fear is present, if Robin Hood was acting out of fear it would be one situation ~ but if he was defending the weak and poor and fighting evil as sometimes has to be the case that is another situation ~ wisdom is tough in this world and i do agree we often fight the wrong enemy . . . Jesus said, what was lacking in the teaching of the day was Justice, Mercy and Faith . . .

Matt, thank you for your kind comments!

Artist's Description

I painted this watercolor sometime after seeing a vision of someone who appeared to look like Robin Hood, but whose behavior caused me to believe that what I had seen was a spirit of fear. It was then that I knew God was reminding us to lift up Jesus Christ who is our Shield against all the fiery darts of the enemy.

Just as Robin Hood "took the law into his own hands" and bent popular opinion (like a bow!), by reacting to Prince John--the hostile system of his day, a spirit of fear today causes us at times to take the law into our own hands, and use it for our own sense of justice.

Thus, we inevitably end up shooting arrows at one another because we are oblivious to who the real enemy is. I believe this spirit of fear is in opposition to the law of the Spirit of Life, beca...

About Hazel Holland

Hazel Holland

I grew up in the United Kingdom, and immigrated to the USA when I was 19. After attending several different colleges over a number of years, I finally received my BA degree and began teaching children with special needs. However before I got my teaching degree I was a substitute teacher, and got hired to teach art classes in an elementary school in Southern California. The goal of this pilot program was to determine what kind of impact creative expression might have on the academic lives of elementary school students. For six months I taught children how to enhance their drawing and painting skills by providing a nurturing, fun, and supportive environment. My goal was to empower these children through their creativity, and in turn...
